Law Update -- Opioid Antagonist Co-Prescribing, Sente Bill 221

Posted almost 6 years ago by Shawnna Read

The PMP emailed all health care providers regarding the new opioid prescribing requirements found in SB221, effective June 14, 2019.

Prescribes must now warn patients of overdose risk and co-prescribe an opioid antagonist.  Written information regarding the effects of the opioid antagonist and techniques for administration must accompany opioid prescriptions if the prescription is at least a five-day supply. Patient handouts are available at New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council's website for members: https://www.nmnpc.org/Login.aspx
